Dawgs 7-year Streak Ends vs Yellow Jackets
ATHENS- It was 28-12 at halftime, as the Dawgs had shut down Tech's triple option offense and were cruising. That's when the Georgia Tech offense got rolling and the Georgia defense began stumbling. Matt Stafford and the Georgia offense did their part, as Stafford broke the Bulldog's single-game passing record with 407 yards passing and 5 TD's. Knowshon Moreno ran for 97 yards and a TD. And, Mohammed Massaquoi hauled in 11 catches for 180 yards and 3 TD's. However, a fumbled kickoff return and poor defensive tackling led to Tech being able to claw their way back into the game. Georgia Tech capitalized on Georgia's mistakes by scoring 26 unanswered points in the third quarter. Tech was able to score long touchdown runs in the second half, due to mental mistakes and poor tackling on the part of the Georgia defense. This ultimately caught up to the Dawgs as Tech came out on top 45-42.
It's hard to believe a team can have 488 yards of total offense, score 42 points and lose a football game. That's just what happened to Georgia against Georgia Tech. As the Dawgs reflect on thier 9-3 season against one of the toughest schedules in the nation, they must also look forward to a nice bowl game and make decisions on the future. Several players, including Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, must decide whether they want to return for another run at a National Championship next year or take their talents to the NFL. Many will view the preseason #1 team as a disappointment and others will realize the effects of a killer schedule and an unusual amount of injuries have taken their toll over the course of the year. There are a whole lot of teams across the country that would love to have 9-3 season (.... Georgia Tech is 9-3 and doing doing backflips off of their Calculus books, they're so excited!). But the Bulldog Nation has grown accustomed to the 10-win, Top 10-in-the-nation kind of year. The Dawgs will continue to knock on the door of the "ultimate prize" until the door eventually opens. In order make another run, the Dawgs must get back to playing Georgia defense. Something that has been missing in losses to Alabama, Florida and Georgia Tech. So, as the Dawgs get ready to "hunker down one more time" in their bowl game, a 10-win season is still within reach. It's the Championships that will have to wait until next year......
